www.myspace.com/deadschembechlers
In a follow-up to my previous post about the Dead Schembechlers, the band was put in a very awkward situation when former Michigan coach Bo Schembechler passed away the day before the game. The band's site is currently down due to the amazing amount of publicity they had generated prior to the enormous game Saturday. However, their myspace page is up. It's nice to see the unfortunately named band handled the situation with class.

The group played the largest Hate Michigan Rally in history on November 17th, selling out the Newport Music Hall with over 1500 people attending. It was an emotionally charged evening with the shocking news of the death of the band's namesake, Bo Schembechler, coming earlier in the day. The band announced at a press conference prior to the show that they would drop the current band name out of respect to Bo and the Schembechler family if they continued in the future. They also announced all band profits from the show inluding those of Watershed and B.A. Baracus would be donated to a charity of the Schembechler family's choosing. The show was the most incredible in their history as the crowd continually cheered for Bo, the band led a final cheer for him aand dedicated the entire event to "the most valiant foe OSU has ever faced."

Ohio State vs Michigan 1950: Great Thanksgiving Storm

1950: Great Thanksgiving Storm
Check out this unbelieveable video of the Great Thanksgiving snowstorm of 1950. The game went on as scheduled, despite 5 degree temperatures, 40 mph winds, and snow depths of 20 inches. Unfortunately OSU lost by a score of 9-3. Michigan only gained 27 yards total, and no first downs.

A pear-fect holiday cocktail

MiamiHerald.com | 11/16/2006 | A pear-fect holiday cocktail
Pear nectar, pear liqueur, lemon juice, brandy, and champagne in a cinamon/sugar rimmed cocktail glass garnished with a thin slice of firm Bosc pear sounds like a fantastic desert cocktail for next week's Thanksgiving feast.

Esquire:Feature Story:What I've Learned: Mark Cuban
Several great ideas from media mogul maverick Mark Cuban. Highlights include, that newspapers aren't dying, just undergoing an identity crisis, and this new take on Andy Warhol's 15 minutes of fame:

You can find any type of discussion group across the Net that is finite enough to make you a hero. It might just be three people, but in that group, you're your own David Koresh.

Seed: Who Wants to Be a Cognitive Neuroscientist Millionaire?
Great story about a cognitive neuroscientist who actively used his knowledge of his field as a contestant on the Who Wants to be a Millionaire gameshow. If I were only still teaching intro psych.

Just stumbled across this looking for inspiration for the recently elusive Friday Cocktail. Haven't had a chance to listen to it, but I wanted to be able to find it at home to add to my podcasts.

Arkiva Tropika

Arkiva Tropika

An online archive of my paper ephemera collection, Arkiva Tropika celebrates not just Polynesian Pop, but also the classic heyday of all tropical (& tropical themed) restaurants, hotels, bars, etc.

I'm especially fond of the droolworthy cocktail menus.

The site is easily searchable and all the images are high quality.

Have your baby on the luckiest day of the year by conceiving tomorrow!

RICHARD CHEESE - Lounge Singer Versions Of The Hits - richardcheese.com
I got a hillarious email from Richard Cheese today that mentions his contest to give birth to his 7/7/7 baby. Here is the first rule of entry:

1) Get impregnated by Richard Cheese on October 14th, 2006. (Conception date is based on a 28-day menstrual cycle. Contestants must adjust their conception date based on their own cycle; Richard Cheese and his assignees are not responsible for miscalculated ovulations.) If, due to high demand from other contestants, Richard Cheese is unavailable to "get busy" with you on October 14th, try to schedule him in for the day before or after. In vitro fertilization will not be allowed; only numerous trysts with Richard Cheese will be permitted.

So, you can use this information however you like. To read the rest of the "contest" rules, follow the link above, then click Extra Cheese in the banner at the top, then Contests on the left. It took me while to find it and I don't see a way to link to it directly, but it's a hoot.

Squirl: A Site for Collectors

Squirl: A Site for Collectors

Neat free site that allows you to organize and share your collections. It's got all the social networking and rss feed capabilities we're coming to expect from this type of thing. I'm posting this because I might use it to catalog my vintage barware collection.

Posting has been anemic lately I know. Fall is the busiest time of the year for my work, and we closed on the house 3 weeks ago, so we've been moving non-stop. We've painted the complete interior, with just a few doors and trim work to finish. Things are generally put away, and the largest artwork has been placed. The biggest tasks left are office and bar organization, and then the yardwork. We're very happy with the new diggs.

Speaking of the lack of recent posts, is anyone interested in contributing. It's easy, really doesn't take much time if you're already surfing anyway. Let me know via email at experiment33@gmail.com and I'll fill you in on the details.
