Friday Cocktail - Pink Lady

Although I blogged the Ramos Gin Fiz first, this was my first cocktail I every made using egg whites. A wonderful classic cocktail that I will certainly make again.

Can you make this Greg?

For Your Entertainment: Good clown or evil clown?

Gotta check out his By the Numbers: An American Self-Portrait exhibition. It's the intersection of statistics, social commentary, and art. I'm certain web images don't do it justice, but it's better than nothing.

Depicts 106,000 aluminum cans, the number used in the US every thirty seconds.

Lots more.

Shock & Awe (Banned Cover Art)

Shock & Awe (Banned Cover Art)
You've seen some, you've hears of some others, but this list of banned or at least controversial album covers is very fun. Did you know that some called for a ban on Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA" because they thought it looked like he was pissing on the flag?

Ian Faith: They're not gonna release the album... because they have decided that the cover is sexist.
Nigel Tufnel: Well, so what? What's wrong with bein' sexy? I mean there's no...
Ian Faith: Sex-IST!
David St. Hubbins: IST!

Friday Cocktail - Cherry Drop

Cherry Drop, originally uploaded by Experiment 33.

Similar to a lemon drop but with Kirshwasser to give it a cherry flavor. Late post due to friday hookey. We took the day off and went cable waterskiing. No boats, just a cable drive overhead. Awesome!

Free Dog or Cat Food Cupon from Iams

IamsPromise.com
Zandra eats Iams brand cat food and I just went to their site to check for any updates on the pet food recall. While there I found this part of the site where you can sign up for a cupon for a free 4lb bag of food so a pretty worthwhile cupon.

Savenetradio.org
Information about the decision fo the copyright royalty board's dramatic raise in royalty rates for webcasters that will undoubtedly kill most if not all net radio. They have a nice prepared letter that you can fax (via the website) to your representatives by just entering your contact information (they figure out your representatives from your address).

Drink of the Week 2.0 - Blog Archive - 15 (other) Uses for Vodka
Most revolve around vodka as a cleaner, or home remedy. I might try it on a jellyfish sting or for poison ivy.

Friday Cocktail - Blue Lagoon

I just walked across campus to and from a stats seminar and it's so gorgeous out. I can't wait to get home this evening and hit the beach for a dip in our gorgeous blue water. So, until then I'll post the Blue Lagoon Cocktail. I haven't found too many blue drinks that are really worth it, but this is one of the better one's I've tried. I might try this next time with less or no simple syrup.

Cheers!

Free and sounds like a perfect solution. I just found out about this at Cool Hunting and haven't tried it yet, but I wanted to blog it now so I can find it when I'm at home.

Modern Mechanix

Modern Mechanix
Awesome blog full of scans from old Popular Science and Popular Mechanics magazines. Great fun to see what did and didn't work out. I found it looking for a picture of a vintage chiropractor for a friend who loves vintage and is in need of a chiropractor.

And then I thought to myself, this site seems familiar. It was just boingboinged twice today for the post on novelties, and top computers in 1992.

Ramos Gin Fiz

Ramos Gin Fiz, originally uploaded by Experiment 33.

A New Orleans institution that I never tried before I moved. Unlike any cocktail I've ever had before and well worth the effort. The second cocktail in my New Orleans Themed Decadent Sunday.

Decadent Sunday's were hatched when I spent a Sunday at the end of February making and tasting new cocktails in the afternoon. I figured the only thing that would make this better would be to add a few friends and let them make the drinks some of the time. Now we have a small group rotating the hosting duties, but I started with the first Decadent Sunday at the end of March. I chose a New Orleans theme and made 5 of the myriad of New Orleans cocktails. More from the event can be found at my decadent sunday photo collection.

Cheers!

Make-up Thursday Cocktail - Stiletto

Stiletto, originally uploaded by Experiment 33.

I took the day off last Friday and ended up taking a sick kitty to the vet and forgot to post a Friday Cocktail. So here' s one for a Thursday and I'll add another tomorrow. This one is an unusual mix of Bourbon, Amaretto, and Cranberry. Click the pic for the recipe.

Cheers

Black girl, white parents? In South Africa During Apartheid

When She Was White
Fascinating story of a black girl born to two white parents in South Africa in the late 50s. A very rare occurrence, but aparently genetically possible. At the age of 9 she was expelled from her school because her designation changed from white to "coloured" and she was not allowed to live with ehr parents except as a servant. Supreme court battles were fought and her designation changed. Then she left home at the age of 15 and was disowned by her parents for eloping with a black man.

Bottom's Up Doorbell

doorbellbottomsupbypetervanderjagt

The new house doesn't have a doorbell, and I'd love to be alerted to the arrival of guests by the sound of clinking wine glasses. Of course at $151, I'll have to teach myself to make one if I want it to happen.
