Friday Cocktail - Fort Lauderdale Cocktail
Couldn't resist trying this cocktail when I flipped open my Playboy's Bar Guide from 1971.
1 1/2 oz Golden Rum
1/2 oz Sweet Vermouth
1/4 oz Orange Juice
1/4 oz Lime Juice
1 slice cocktail orange in syrup
Shake with ice and pour over rocks in a pre-chilled old-fashioned glass.
I've never run across a "cocktail orange in syrup," so I supose it means to soak an orange slice in simple syrup, which I did. I found this too tart at first, so I added a very tiny splash of simple syrup, squeezed my orange slice, and stirred a little more. That's when it became a very easy Golden Hour cocktail.
Cheers!

Cool, thanks for the idea.. I think I will try one tonight.. Peace -
Could the "cocktail orange in syrup" be a candied orange that is preserved in simple (sugar) syrup? I suggest this because the best old fashioned I have ever had included a candied orange. The orange slices (including peel) were cooked in sugar and water until they were "candied." They were then added to the drink.
Greg, could be, makes sense to me since I thought the drink needed a little more sweetness. I'm also thinking that all the limes I'm getting right now are overly tart.
