Friday Cocktail - French 75

French 75, originally uploaded by Experiment 33.

I've been wanting to make some champagne cocktails for a while now and last night we cracked open a bottle to give it a go. The French 75 was by far my favorite and will be in the repetoir.

3/4 oz Gin (I've become partial to Plymouth's)
1/2 oz Lemon Juice
1/2 oz Sugar Syrup
Champagne

Place Maraschino cherry in champagne flute. Mix first 3 ingredients in cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into champagne flute and top with champagne.

Cheers!

one of my faves - we used to get these at Cafe Degas (on Esplanade near City Park in NOLA) with brunch

enjoy!

This would be a great brunch drink and it packs a little more punch than a Mimosa or a Kir. It's always great to know you're still checking the blog.

plymouth gin was rated #1 by the new york times test panel for "old school", also known as the only true kind, of martinis. i haven't yet tried it, but it'll be on my next shopping list. i'll have to try that drink. gin really blends well with champagne?. interesting.
