New Scientist The real reason cars and cellphones do not mix - News

Interesting concept, but I think the reason more accidents happen when a person uses a cell phone is because most people phase out the world around them when they're on the phone.

But why do they phase out the world on the phone more than discussion in person? I have to concentrate harder on any phone to pay attention, so the mobile connection strength might not be much worse than the psychological and auditory effects of using a land line, not that you'd have a land line in a car.
