Also stumbled onto this advice for making a bubbling punch for Halloween parties. According to Miss Cocktail, it's safe to put dry ice into punch, but not into glasses that people will drink from. If you get food grade dry ice, it's the same carbon dioxide as in soda fountains, so it's not doing any harm. As the dry ice bubbles and breaks down, some of the dry ice may become covered in regular ice and float. You don't want that to end up in a glass and into someone's mouth. Some dry ice will sink to the bottom and you don't want that either. Best not leave the punch bowl unattended. Maybe you could put the dry ice in the bowl first, cover it with a collander or strainer, then pour the punch over top?

Forget it, don't do it.
